3 Reasons Why I Don’t Post to Instagram Every Day

I saw somewhere online that if you want to double your followers on Instagram, that you’d need to post double the amount. I remember sitting here thinking, who has the time to do this? And where is the evidence to back it up? Are you really for real?

So, let’s say you’ve been posting everyday religiously. If you were to adopt this new ‘technique’ you’d have to be posting almost 4 times a day just to make “ends meet.”

Even though there wasn’t any evidence shown, this method could theoretically work. But let’s be honest. What are your real goals? Is it to be a part of the community on social media or is it to post just to gain followers?

Ask yourself these questions. Is there true value in gaining a lot of followers or is there value in having a community who will engage and react with me? Will it grow my business or grow my follower count? Are we posting for bragging rights or are we posting to help or educate others?

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a while. It’s been brewing at the back of my mind and I was truly complementing, “What if I should post every day if things do change?”

I’m going to keep it “one hundred” with you. Meaning, let’s keep it real. I’m definitely not there yet. Sometimes I’ll happen to post every day, and sometimes I’ll post twice a week. Honestly, growing followers is not my top priority. I don’t think to have a lot of followers is my goal and never will be.

So let’s break down why don’t I post on Instagram every day anymore. I’m interested to hear your thoughts as well.

Real Recognizes Real

First, let’s recognize the real reason I am on Instagram. I have a personal account where I interact and engage with my family and friends. Within this account, I also show some of my work and photographs I’ve captured. And then I have my business account “Bryant Studio” where I educate others about everything digital marketing and design related!

This leads us into my top five reasons why I don’t post to Instagram every day.

1) I run this!

My social media accounts do not run me, I run them. Sometimes we can get in the habit of looking at analytics too closely that we lose sight of what’s really important. Being on social media to connect with others and to provide guidance/help. Social media is a community, not a job. People do not come on social media to be taken seriously. They come to learn and to educate and to have fun!

Yes receiving money is exciting and yes growth is wonderful, but if these are your main two motives for starting a social media account, you will burn out fast. When I think about making the effort of posting to social media multiple times a day or not I always have to remember: I run my social media accounts, they don’t run me. Social media is a tool to engage and communicate with others and for me, it’s a tool I use for helping others.

I believe everyone has their own agenda. Which is true. Instagram has its own, just as well as I have my own. But unfortunately, on my agenda, there isn’t anywhere where I feel the need to post multiple times a day and/or every single day of the week. But what is on my agenda is posting at least 2-3 times a week!

2) Quality over quantity, honey!

From the perspective that you are indeed posting every day, do you know how much content that is to generate? So much to the point where your social media account turns from a quality account to a quantity-focused account. I honestly think that if Instagram is the only thing you’re focused on and nothing else, then by all means — crank that content out honey!

But if it happens to be that Instagram is not your sole purpose, then it would be extremely hard for you to post every single day (or more!) without losing some quality within your posts. I would suggest finding several posts that work for you and run with it!

Even if you end up posting once a week, if that content is valuable enough for one person or even a group of people, then in my eyes — that is all that matters. This means, you have a group of people, who faithfully wait every week to see your content and continue to come back over and over. THAT, my friend, is worth much more than having posts that go out 3 times a day, with not one person having the intention to return.

3) Ain’t nobody got time for that!

No, but really… ain’t nobody got time to spend time on something that isn’t of value to your business. Where is the use in that? I’m going to be honest with y’all, It is not my goal to post on social media a lot. Not one bit. Nor do I want the intention to be that when you subscribe to the information that I have to give out, that I will constantly bombard you with information throughout the day.

That, and I feel the need to connect on social media more. I like to engage with my followers and get to know them on a level where I can learn from them and they can learn from me.

What's On Your Mind?

But that’s enough from me, I want to hear your thoughts on this subject. Do you believe that posting a lot is the key to success on social media? I know we all won’t necessarily agree on where the balance is in the question, especially considering that we should all post depending on what our audience truly likes. Do you post on Instagram every day? Why or why not?
